What Umbral Market is

Umbral Market is a free World of Warcraft market-data site. It records Auction House prices on 92 EU and 83 US realms every 30 minutes from Blizzard's Game Data API and shows them as cross-realm price comparisons, price history, flipping analytics and price alerts. It also publishes class guides built from armory data, a 3D housing decor catalog, WoW Token and gold-value tracking, and a hub for WoW content creators.

The site is a fan project operated by Cayan Oyman in Germany (see the Legal Notice). It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment. Umbral Market does not buy or sell gold, items or accounts.

Auction House prices

• Source: the auction and commodity endpoints of Blizzard's official Game Data API.
• Coverage: 92 EU and 83 US connected realms. A connected realm is a group of servers that share one Auction House. Commodities (stackable trade goods such as herbs, ore and cloth) are sold on one region-wide market, so they have a single EU price and a single US price. EU and US data are stored and shown separately, because items and gold cannot move between regions.
• Cadence: a new snapshot of every realm is recorded every 30 minutes. Item pages show when their data was last refreshed.
• Price shown: the lowest buyout currently listed for the item on that realm. Blizzard delivers prices in copper; the site shows them in gold (10,000 copper = 1 gold).
• Variants: gear with different bonus IDs is treated as a different product. Item-level variants and crafted quality tiers get their own price and their own history.

How the cheapest realm and the medians are calculated

• Cheapest realm: for each realm we take the lowest current buyout of the item and sort the realms by that price. The first realm in that list is the cheapest realm.
• Regional median: the median of those per-realm lowest buyouts, across all realms in the region that currently list the item. We use the median instead of the average so that one mispriced listing does not move the figure.
• Price history: for each time bucket we take every realm's lowest price in that bucket and then the median across realms. The 7-day chart uses 4-hour buckets; the 30-day line on item pages uses daily values. The 7-day trend compares the latest daily median with the one seven days earlier.
• Which items get a page: an item page is published only when the item is listed on at least 10 realms in the region, or when it is a commodity with measurable sales.

Sales figures and flipping estimates

The Auction House API shows what is for sale, not what was sold. Sale rate, average sale price and units sold per day are therefore region-wide estimates from a third-party market-data provider, refreshed once a day. They are not our own measurement.

Profit estimates in the flipping tools use the average sale price as the expected selling price, not the current lowest listing, and subtract the 5% Auction House cut. For gear that exists at several item levels, the item-wide sales figure is split across the variants in proportion to how quickly each variant's listings disappear from the Auction House. That split is recalculated twice a day.

WoW Token and gold value

The WoW Token price for EU and US is read from Blizzard's API every 30 minutes and kept as history (24-hour, 7-day, 30-day and 90-day charts). The gold value page turns that price into a real-money figure: Blizzard sells the Token for a fixed price and players sell it for gold, so the ratio is what gold costs when it is bought through the Token. It is not a gold-seller rate.

Class guides

The guides contain no theorycraft. For every specialization we read the top 25 characters from Blizzard's Raid and Mythic+ ladders (EU and US) through the Blizzard Profile API and count what they actually use: gear per slot, talents, enchants, gems, embellishments and stat priority. Stat priority is the median of those characters' stats. The scan runs once a day at 07:20 UTC, and every guide shows the time of its last scan. Characters whose equipped item level falls outside the current season's range are left out, so gear from an older expansion does not distort the result.

Housing catalog

The housing catalog lists the decor items of the current game build. Item names, categories, 3D models and dye slots are read from the game's own data files for that build. Where an item comes from (vendor, location, cost, quest, achievement or profession) is researched per item. Prices for tradeable decor come from the same Auction House recordings as every other item.

Limits of the data

• Auction House prices are asking prices (lowest buyout), not completed sales.
• A price can be up to 30 minutes old, and older when Blizzard's API is delayed or unavailable.
• All figures are informational market data and can be incomplete or wrong. See section 5 of the Terms of Service.
